Kalagas, which are embroidered Burmese tapestries, have been around
for about 150 years. They are made from cotton, silk, & velvet
adorned with plain and metallic threads, metal sequins, beads and
glass "stones." The figures in the tapestries are stuffed, giving a
bas-relief effect. These were actually made as cushion covers but
they are just to good to use on a cushion! Beautiful colours and
intricate embroidery with a 3D effect make these simply the best
when they are framed without glass and hung.
